Bolton Father Haydn Brown Passes Away Following Battle with Mental Health Issues

The Untimely Passing of Haydn Brown: A Life Remembered

On April 9, 2023, the community of Leigh was struck by the tragic news of Haydn Brown’s untimely death at the age of 44. A devoted father of four and a well-known local entrepreneur, Mr. Brown’s passing has left a profound impact on his family, friends, and the many lives he touched through his work and personal connections.

A Life of Ambition and Service

Haydn Brown was not just a father; he was a passionate individual who dedicated his life to his work and family. He ran a tattoo parlour named Skin City and also operated Archangel Security Services, both of which were well-regarded in the Tonge Moor area. His entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to his businesses showcased his ambition and drive to succeed.

Despite his professional achievements, Mr. Brown faced personal challenges that would ultimately shape his life. He had a history of mental health issues, including PTSD and depression, stemming from a traumatic experience during his time as a firefighter. These struggles, compounded by his use of alcohol as a coping mechanism, created a complex narrative that would culminate in his tragic death.

The Events Leading to His Death

The days leading up to Mr. Brown’s death were marked by a concerning shift in his behavior. Tilly Budgen, his partner, recounted the events during an inquest held at Bolton Coroners Court on October 8, 2023. The couple had met in November 2022 and quickly developed a close relationship. On the evening of April 8, they engaged in what Tilly described as a "normal type of conversation." However, the tone of Haydn’s messages began to change, raising alarm bells for Tilly.

After receiving increasingly concerning texts, Tilly went to the tattoo shop where Haydn was working. Upon her arrival, he revealed that he had taken a significant number of tablets, expressing feelings of despair. Tilly’s immediate instinct was to seek help, urging him to go to the hospital. Despite her persistent pleas, Haydn was initially resistant but eventually agreed to accompany her after a visit to McDonald’s to eat something.

A Heartbreaking Discovery

After returning to Tilly’s home, Haydn fell asleep on the sofa, while Tilly remained nearby, waking up multiple times throughout the night to check on him. However, the following morning, she awoke to a silence that would shatter her world. Unable to hear him snoring, she discovered Haydn unresponsive. Despite her frantic calls to the police and paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:32 AM.

Tilly described Haydn as "always positive, ambitious, and looking towards the future." She firmly believed that his actions were not a deliberate attempt to end his life but rather a cry for help, underscoring the complexities of mental health struggles.

The Inquest Findings

The inquest revealed critical insights into Haydn’s mental health history and the circumstances surrounding his death. Pathologist Dr. Richard Shepherd confirmed that Mr. Brown died from toxicity due to a combination of alcohol and prescription pills. His GP, Dr. Olivia Shaw, provided context regarding Haydn’s mental health challenges, emphasizing that he had not engaged with the Achieve Recovery Services program designed to assist individuals with substance use issues.

Coroner Michael Pemberton concluded the inquest by ruling Haydn’s death as misadventure. He stated, "Haydn did take a quantity of (the tablets) and alcohol which did prove to be fatal. But I am not satisfied that it was intentional." He acknowledged Tilly’s efforts to care for Haydn, affirming that she had done everything possible under the circumstances.

A Community in Mourning

Haydn Brown’s death has left a void in the lives of those who knew him. His family, friends, and the Leigh community are grappling with the loss of a man who was not only a loving father but also a vibrant part of their lives. Tilly’s heartfelt tribute to him as a "big friendly giant" resonates with many who remember his warmth and positivity.

As discussions around mental health continue to gain importance, Haydn’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the struggles many face in silence. It highlights the need for open conversations about mental health, the importance of seeking help, and the critical role that loved ones play in supporting those in need.

In the wake of this tragedy, the community of Leigh stands united in remembrance of Haydn Brown, a man whose life, though cut short, will not be forgotten. His legacy will continue to inspire conversations about mental health awareness and the importance of compassion and understanding in our daily lives.
